IGP Disu Seeks to Boost Counter-Terrorism Training Through Strategic Collaboration
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has taken steps to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to investigate terrorism by advancing plans to institutionalise a specialised counter-terrorism training programme at the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC).
The proposal was a key focus of a strategic meeting held on Thursday June 18, 2026, involving the Nigeria Police Force, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigeria Police Academy, and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

Discussions centered on incorporating the Specialised Training Programme on Counter-Terrorism Investigation into the academic structure of POLAC, with the aim of improving the expertise and preparedness of law enforcement officers in addressing terrorism and related security threats.
Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Patrick Atayero and Uche Ifeanyi Henry, were also in attendance, alongside representatives from the collaborating institutions.

Participants at the meeting emphasised the shared commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and its partners to strengthening investigative capacity, fostering institutional cooperation, and establishing sustainable frameworks for counter-terrorism education and training within the country.

The initiative is expected to provide future officers with the advanced knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively tackle the evolving nature of terrorism in Nigeria.
