BREAKING: Court Directs INEC to Delist ADC, Four Other Parties
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside four other political parties for failing to meet constitutional requirements on electoral performance.
The affected parties include the African Democratic Congress, Action Peoples Party, Action Alliance, Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party.

Justice Peter Lifu issued the ruling on Monday June 15, 2026 in a case brought before the court by the National Forum of Former Legislators.
The plaintiffs sought clarification on whether INEC is constitutionally mandated to remove political parties that do not meet the performance benchmarks outlined in Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC guidelines.
They argued that the parties failed to achieve the required thresholds, such as securing at least 25 percent of votes in any state during a presidential election or winning at least one elective seat at the federal, state, or local government level.
According to the forum, the parties performed poorly in the 2023 general elections and subsequent by-elections, failing to gain representation across key tiers of government.
Based on this, the court directed INEC to proceed with their deregistration.
