BKDC Holds Sensitization Programme on BVT; Solicits Stakeholders’ Buy-In

The Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC) has called on relevant stakeholders to rally around efforts geared towards actualizing the Bonny Vehicular Terminal (BVT), describing it as a development infrastructure and mobility management tool for the Bonny environment.

Chairman of BKDC, Amairigha Hart made this call on Friday, April 17, 2026 during a One Day Sensitization Meeting for the Bonny Vehicular Terminal organized by the BKDC in conjunction with Chairborne Global Resources Limited and Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited in Bonny, Rivers State.

Hart stressed that the project is aimed at ensuring that heavy duty vehicles, large busses, among others have a suitable place to evacuate their passengers and cargo, from where smaller vehicles can then convey such into the town, thus reducing congestion and traffic gridlock.

He expressed appreciation to the Amanyanabo and Bonny Chiefs Council, NLNG, host communities of the project and the contractor, Chairborne for their support, appealing for understanding and cooperation from all to ensure the success of the project.  

In his remarks, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Abinye Pepple, described the project as “transformational for trade mobility and prosperity”, emphasizing that the BVT “is not merely a physical project but a transformational investment that marks a pivotal step in the LGA’s infrastructural advancement”.

Represented by the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government, Tamunotonye Jumbo, the LGA Chairman noted that the project symbolizes progress in community development, economic empowerment, and strengthened connectivity for the people of Bonny LGA.

On its part, the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC) through its Chairman, Se-Alabo Dagogo Claude-Wilcox, commended the BKDC for sustaining its role as the driver of development and making meaningful and effective interventions on behalf of Bonny Kingdom.

The BCC urged all to “make useful contributions and pay attention to clarifications so that you take the message to those at home. This will make us all to be on the same page on issues concerning development of Bonny Kingdom”, charging the contractor, Chairborne, to adhere to stated design specifications and not compromise on standards.

“Let us remember that development is a shared responsibility. Bonny Kingdom Development Committee has shown leadership. Chairman has been entrusted with execution and we, the people, must provide cooperation.”

Host communities of the project, Abalamabie and Bagg Jumbo, represented by Wari-Alabo Samuel Hart, and Enoch Jumbo, respectively, expressed delight over the project, stating that their respective communities will continue to support the developmental vision of the Amanyanabo.

In his remarks, NLNG’s Community Relations Manager, Yemi Adeyemi, who was represented by the company’s Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, Edith Hart stated that the project, which is being constructed by Chairborne is part of the CSR projects for its Train 7 project.

He informed that the BVT project has done 17.5% and about 50 manhours, with 30 personnel on the project site, urging relevant stakeholders to support it, while appealing to visitors to the site to contact officials of the company for clearance, while calling for constructive criticisms.

Earlier, the representative of Chairborne Global Resources Limited, Felix Emesaha informed that the company had mobilized its workers to site, done bush clearing, after which, he said dredging activities will start, revealing that community engagement was ongoing and being handled by BKDC, adding that dredging activities will start after consultations are done with.

In his welcome address, the Secretary of BKDC, Dr. Victor Jumbo, who is also the Chairman of the event’s Organizing Committee, said that this sensitization program is one of BKDC’s mechanism to inform and enlighten residents of Bonny Kingdom of its activities and also receive feedback for better service delivery.

Strategically sited along the Bonny-Bodo Road, the Bonny Vehicular Terminal is designed to function as a central transport hub, facilitating seamless movement of people, goods, and services.

Upon completion, it is expected to boost trade activities, support local enterprises, and significantly contribute to the broader economic growth of the community.
