Sequel to the assault on the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Kristina Reports, Godswill Jumbo, yesterday, the joint security services in Bonny Local Government Area have warned all security personnel operating in the area to be civil and professional in dealing with the civil populace at all times.
They also warned them to desist from highhandedness and aggressive behaviour during their interactions with the people at their respective duty posts.
The Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy (NN) Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, Navy Capt. Oguntuga, accompanied by the second-in-command to the JTF Commander in Bonny, Major Mohammed Musa handed down the warning today in respect of yesterday’s incident.
Navy Capt. Oguntuga stated clearly that the Nigerian Military was there protect the citizens and not harm them, adding that the military would continue to stand by its legendary code of discipline, and professionalism, and adherence to the rule of law in all its dealings with the civilian populace.
An intelligence officer with the Joint Task Force in Bonny LGA, identified as Benjamin yesterday assaulted and brutalized the well-respected journalist, Godswill Jumbo at the beach in Bonny Island on his arrival from Port Harcourt.
The Nigerian Army leadership in Bonny LGA has tendered an unreserved apology to Godswill Jumbo over the gruesome conduct of its personnel, who threw caution to the wind and act out of sync with conventional military codes of engagement with the civilian populace.
The said Benjamin has been sanctioned and also made to render a public apology for his conduct yesterday by his superiors and a consensus reached to let go of the issue.
