A former Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, George Tolofari has lashed out at Muhammadu Buhari for dumping party faithful after securing his life’s dream of becoming President of Nigeria.
Tolofari resigned his membership of the party on Monday, July 18, 2022, via a letter titled “RESIGNATION OF MEMBERSHIP FROM THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC)” dated July 18th, 2022 and addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward 12, Bonny LGA.
In an exclusive interview with Kristina Reports, Tolofari, who is a former Commissioner of Transport in the State, accused the President of being a social climber and dumping party faithful after securing his life’s ambition.
“Buhari doesn’t care about the party, he’s gotten what he wants and does not care for others.”
It would be recalled that the pursuit of Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential ambition cost the APC in Rivers State the lives of several of its members but curiously, nothing was seen to have been done to assuage the feeling of disenchantment since he assumed office as President.
Close watchers observe that there has been no deliberate effort by the President Buhari led Federal Government to fish out and sanction those responsible for the pogrom that was visited on the APC in Rivers State between 2014 and 2016.
Some party faithful, who spoke in confidence with Kristina Reports posit that, aside this, the political fortunes of members of the party dwindled greatly as appointments into federal offices became a scarce commodity in the past seven years of the Buhari administration.
Kristina Reports reliably learnt that a very senior member of the APC in the State had to resort to Governor Nyesom Wike’s intervention to secure medical treatment for his son abroad recently.
President Buhari did nothing to assuage the intractable crisis engendered by Senator Magnus Abe’s quest to wrestle control of the party from his erstwhile boss, Rotimi Amaechi.
The plethora of court cases instituted allegedly by supporters of Senator Abe continued unabated until the party was effectively knocked off the ballot in the 2019 elections in the State with no action from the President.
Checks across the country indicate similar situations with the APC reeling under the weight of internal intractable crisis which left the party balkanized.
Asked about his advice to the APC on how to exit the quagmire it has found itself, George Tolofari queried “A party that I have left, what’s the use for advice?”
The former leader of the APC Caucus in Rivers State said “I only wish them well in the forthcoming elections. That is enough”.
With the plethora of resignations that has hit the APC in Rivers State in the past week, it is becoming clear that their arch rivals, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may retain the governorship seat in the State come 2023.
