Michael Besong Ogar, a Commandant in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who arrived Port Harcourt days ago, appears not to be a man of peace, at least, not with those involved in illegal artisanal refining, pipeline vandals and other economic saboteurs.

As he arrived to assume duty as the State Commandant of the NSCDC in Rivers State, he fired a warning shot, a declaration of war on criminals of all shades and all those tampering with critical national assets, ordering them to relocate from the State or face the wrath of the service under his watch..

Commandant, NSCDC Rivers State Command, Michael Besong Ogar taking a salute from the the Guard of Honour mounted in his honour upon arriving to assume office in Port Harcourt.

Addressing Senior Management Staff Officers, Divisional Officers and other ranks on his first day in office, Commandant Michael Besong Ogar announced that “there is a new Sheriff in town, those in the act of vandalism and operators of illegal refineries are advised to relocate because Rivers State will no more accommodate them.”

“The NSCDC is committed to safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructure as well as protection of the lives and properties of the citizens. Assuredly, we will do our work without compromise and prejudice.”

Stressing the need for inter-agency collaborations among security agencies and all other stakeholders in order to combat the menace of insecurity in the nation, the NSCDC State Commandant noted that intelligence is the bedrock of security.

He, therefore, urged the public to partner with the Corps by providing credible Intelligence and actionable information that would assist the Command to nip in the bud all activities leading to environmental degradation and economic sabotage across the region.

The Command helmsman, however, gave a stern warning against violation of fundamental human rights of the citizens, asserting that, as a security agency with statutory mandate, the officers and men of the Command must exhibit high level of professionalism and respect for the dignity of persons as his administration will not entertain any iota of brutality against civilians and accidental discharge.
