The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has commiserated with the royal family and people of Ogba Kingdom in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State on the death of their immediate past Traditional Ruler, His Eminence, Eze Dr Chukumela Nnam Obi II, the Eze Ogba of Ogbaland.

Chairman of NAWOJ Rivers State Chapter, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana said that NAWOJ was standing in solidarity with the royal family and people Ogba Kingdom at this critical time when they were mourning the late King.

Serekara-Nwikhana said this on Friday, July 23, 2021, when she led a high powered delegation of the association on a Condolence Visit to the Palace of the Oba of Ogbaland in Omoku, ONELGA, Rivers State.

The NAWOJ delegation was received by the new Oba of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Eze Nwachukwu Solomon Obi III, in company of his Cabinet Chiefs.

The foremost female journalist in Rivers State described the late Monarch as “humble and friendly, soft spoken,” noting that “despite his royal status and the class of the stool he occupied, he lived a simple life devoid of extravagance and unbridled materialism”.

She expressed that “the death of our Monarch came to us as a rude shock even though he passed on at a ripe age of 80 years and 50 years on the throne as Oba of Ogbaland,” stressing that “with the assurance that the land of Ogba is with NAWOJ, the association promises to join forces with the family of our late Oba to give him a befitting burial”.

Responding, Oba of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Eze Nwachukwu Solomon Obi III, thanked the visiting team and NAWOJ at large for their show of love evidenced in their coming to commiserate and mourn with the family.

The late Eze Ogba of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Sir Dr Chukumela Nnam Obi II, who was the pioneer National President of the Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON) and three term Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, passed on to the great beyond on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

During his lifetime, he was Grand Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, as well as well as several other professional bodies and associations; and led several initiatives geared towards social impact in Ogbaland, Rivers State and beyond.
