The Nigerian Army has appointed Major General Ibrahim Mohammed Jallo as the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt.
This is sequel to the death of the erstwhile GOC, Major Joseph Olubunmi Irefin, who passed on to the great beyond on Thursday, December 10, 2020, during the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference.
The new acting GOC, Maj. Gen. Jallo, also assumes office as Land Component Commander of Operation Delta Safe (LCC OPDS).
This development was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Ekeocha.
The statement said the new acting GOC/LCC OPDS has since assumed duty, following the demise of the former GOC, Major General Joseph Olubunmi Irefin.
Major General I. M. Jallo was, until his appointment, the Commander, 63 Brigade, Asaba, Delta State.
Recall that the death of Maj. Gen. Irefin forced the abrupt suspension of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who also ordered that all officers attending the conference should proceed on a mandatory 14 days isolation.
Reports have it that over 20 generals who attended the conference have so far tested positive for Covid-19, which have given credence to the imminence of a second wave of the pandemic in the country.
