Lockdown Day 11: Palliatives Arrive Bonny Island As Wike Fulfils Promise

In fulfilment of his promise earlier today, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has sent palliatives to the beleaguered residents of Bonny Local Government Area.

Three trucks laden with assorted foodstuffs arrived the Coconut Estate waterfront at Oguede Community a few minutes ago. Four more trucks are expected tomorrow.

The palliatives were received on arrival by the Chairman of the Bonny Chiefs Council’ Technical Committee on COVID-19 Compliance, Reginald Hart alongside his members.

Wike had announced on a live interview on AIT earlier today that he had sent palliatives to the area to cushion the effect of the lockdown on residents.

He also sounded words of caution to the committee charged with the distribution of the palliatives to ensure every resident was captured, stressing that that was the reason he appointed men of impeccable integrity into the committee to manage the disbursement process.

The arrival of the palliatives was announced on a Facebook live video by the Special Assistant to the Bonny Local Government Chairman, Williams Ogbah-Agwu a few minutes ago.

This development comes as a big relief to residents of the area who were caught napping by the impromptu lockdown on the night of Saturday, June 20, 2020, with no opportunity to access funds or foodstuffs to cater for themselves while the lockdown lasts.
