Women Must Lead the Charge for a Cleaner Society – WAMASON President

As the world marks the 2025 International Women’s Day, the President of the Waste Management Association of Nigeria (WAMASON), Chief Akpabio Esien, AmbGW has called on women to take the lead in driving environmental sustainability, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining a cleaner, healthier society. 

Speaking in commemoration of the global event with the theme couched as “Accelerate Action”, Chief Esien described women as the “backbone of waste management and environmental conservation”.

He urged them to synergize with relevant stakeholders to accelerate action in promoting sustainable practices at home, in communities, and across industries. 

“Women play a fundamental role in shaping a clean and healthy environment, from managing household waste to influencing sustainable practices, their leadership and commitment are vital in tackling environmental challenges”.

The WAMASON President highlighted the need for increased female participation in waste management initiatives, recycling programs, and advocacy for climate action.

He stressed that empowering women with the right resources and policies would lead to more effective environmental solutions. 

He also called on government agencies, private organizations, and environmental bodies to provide more opportunities for women in the sector, including access to funding, training, and leadership positions. 

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I urge every woman to see herself as a champion of a clean society. Let’s take action, influence policies, and work together to build a sustainable future,” he concluded.
