We’re Taking Cooking Gas To The Rural Areas – DPR
Nigeria’s foremost oil and gas foremost regulator, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says it was poised to actualise the Federal Government’s plan to make cooking gas available to rural dwellers across the country.
It said it was pursuing this objective in conjunction with liquefied gas retailers across the country.
The Zonal Operations Controller of the DPR, Port Harcourt Office, Bassey Ikanga’a disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after a surveillance visit to gas refilling plants in Port Harcourt.
The dangers of using firewood by rural dwellers has remained a source of concern given the damage to the environment by the carbon produced during cooking.
Experts say the carbon thus produced causes damage to the ozone layer, among other hazards, not to add safety concerns to the families involved.
The DPR boss explained that the federal government will use the category D gas retailers to penetrate into the rural areas so as to encourage rural dwellers to embrace the plan.
Ikanga’a said the federal government is also putting measures in place to make the cost of cooking gas affordable to the people so as to encourage its use.
Kristina Reports can report that the DPR surveillance team sealed four gas plants: Forte Oil gas plant, Sun Gas Plant, Timi gas plant and Kayzavia gas plant for operating illegally without license.
