In a bid to curb the incessant attacks of sea pirates on the Bonny waterways, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha has inaugurated a monitoring committee to ensure that the new measures for managing maritime activities in the area were enforced.
He said this was in response to the cry of the people of the area to safeguard their lives and properties while travelling and to ensure the safety and security of travellers on the Bonny-Port Harcourt sea route.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Williams Ogbah Agwu, said the inauguration ceremony took place in his office at the Local Government Council Secretariat, Bonny.
Irimagha reiterated his commitment to pursue policies and programmes that will improve the lives of the people, stating that since his assumption of office he has remained focused on ensuring that the people of Bonny, both indigenes and residents, were safe and secure.

The Committee, as inaugurated, has the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, Omoni Longjohn as Chairman, Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hamilton Hart, Secretary, Golden Barasua Hart, as Alternate Chairman, and Tonye Longjohn, Godswill Jumbo, Henry Jumbo, Paul Jumbo, Kalada Longjohn, Abinye Banigo, as members.

The Bonny LG boss charged them to view their appointment as a privilege to serve and not for personal aggrandisement, noting that their services, dedication and sacrifice would be rewarded by God, and assuring them of his full support to achieve the stated objectives.
The inauguration ceremony had in attendance the Vice Chairman, Bonny LGA, Anengi Barasua, Chief of Staff to the Bonny LG Chairman, Uriel John-Jumbo, Divisional Police Officers of the Nigeria Police in Bonny and Finima, CSP Shuaib Achigili and CSP Bashir Kontagora, respectively, Officer-in-charge of the Department of State Services (DSS), Amos Ajayi, Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaizer Nelson, and the Officer-in-charge of the Nigeria Police Marine Division, Adeniyi Solomon.

Others were the representative of the Commander, Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Navy, Lt. Kabir Afolabi, Commanding Officer, Joint Taskforce, Bonny, Capt. Ibinabo Omineokuma, and representative of the Commander, State Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (SIIB) of the Nigeria Police, Goodluck Nwibaedee, among others.

The Bonny Local Government Chairman, David Irimagha implored the committee members to ensure the resolutions on the new protocols for travel times, communications, emergency, and other parameters were adhered to by the maritime operators in consonance with the security agencies to ensure efficiency, security and safety of the travellers on the waterways.
