History was made at the 2024 edition of the King/Queen of Mathematics Contest. First, the prize money for the winner was raised from N1 million to N2 million. Then siblings, Pirinye Precious Dappa and Sotonye Prince Dappa snatched the top positions in both the senior and junior category. Then Lucille Education Centre (LEC) sustained its winning streak by retaining best positions.
The new Queen of Mathematics and her brother are students of Lucille Education Centre. Best Performed Principal went to Esau Enyinnaya, Principal of Lucille Education Centre, Best Performed Mathematics Teacher also went to Vitalis Ezema of LEC, while Lucille Education Centre also retained Best Performed School.
This performance by Lucille Education Centre is a three-year back-to-back record. LEC’s students, Nelson Bluejack won the 2022/2023 edition, Ivan Jumbo won the 2023/2024 edition; while Pirinye Dappa has now won the 2024/2025 edition.
As Dappa goes home with the N2 million prize money, her brother with the N500,000 prize for the junior category, first runner-up in the senior category, Adebola Adesoneo of Faith Academy also goes home with the N200,000 prize for second position.
In the senior category, John Hart Gideon of Lucille Education Centre clinched the third position and went home with the sum of N50,000; while in the junior category, Akinbayo Ifeoluwa and Duke Serena Praise, both of Faith Academy emerged first and second runners-up, winning N100,000 and N50,000, respectively.
This year’s edition of the annual contest was organized by the Dr. DJG Fubara Foundation in partnership with the Rivers State House of Assembly, Bonny Constituency, G30 Ibani Voice, DavFub Group of Companies, CasaChem Global Limited, The Gibs Hotel, and Nat Long Oil and Gas Services Limited.
Speaking at the Grand Finale of the Contest in Bonny, Rivers State on Monday, April 10, 2023, President of the G30 Ibani Voice, Dr. Fubara Dan-Jumbo said the competition is a launchpad for global competitiveness for participating students, urging them to “aim for the skies”.
Represented by a former President of the Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF), Ipiriala Jumbo, the G30 Ibani Voice President stated that the contest aims at giving participating students a chance at excellence and success on all fronts in life as Mathematics is at the core of all human endeavours and remains a global phenomenon.
He advised the students to aim for the highest achievements in life and refuse to be limited by their geographical location, present circumstances, and distractions from their immediate environment.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Secretary General of the G30 Ibani Voice, Godswill Hart had thanked the students and other stakeholders for the various roles they played to make the day a success.
He encouraged the students to see the competition as stepping stone to greater achievements, stressing that the G30 Ibani Voice remains focused on its core objective which is to encourage academic excellence amongst youths in the area.
Speaking at the event, the new Queen of Mathematics, Pirinye Dappa expressed her gratitude to the organizers for according her and other students the opportunity to contest and exhibit their intellectual prowess in Mathematics, urging other students to work hard and also listen to their teachers.
On his part, the Principal of Lucille Education Centre, Esau Enyinna, who won the award of Best Performing Principal in Bonny LGA, applauded Pirinye Dappa and the other winners from his school for working very hard, asserting that early preparation was key to the success of the school’s products at the competition.
The competition is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the G30 Ibani Voice aimed at stimulating and sustaining interest in Mathematics.
