Rsu Vice Chancellor Unveils New Petrol Station Map
The Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi has unveiled an innovative Petrol Station Map on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The project, which is a major milestone in environmental research of the The Institute of Pollution Studies (IPS) has a comprehensive map of petrol filling stations in Port Harcourt Municipality signifying a major breakthrough in a bid to safeguard innovative groundwater protection campaign in Rivers State.

The Vice Chancellor, commended the Institute for its innovation and forward-thinking approach, describing it as an alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Institution’s commitment to supporting research to deliver a measurable, social, environmental and economic impact.



As part of the campaign, the Institute of Pollution Studies (IPS) flagged off a scientific ‘Bucket Experiment’ aimed at assessing the impact of buried municipal waste on groundwater quality.
Furthermore, the research will further generate evidence-based insight to enhance waste management systems as well as the adoption of engineered landfill solutions across the region.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the Institute Professor Eze stated the goal of the institution in advancing environmental protection through cutting-edge research, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnerships.
Professor Eze noted that the findings from the mapping exercise and groundwater study will strengthen policy advocacy, enhance environmental awareness and contribute to sustainable development in the Niger Delta area.

In his remark, the Professor Zeb-Obipi informed that the Director of Institute will represent the university at an upcoming international meeting in Kigali, creating a platform to showcasing the institute’s pioneering work on a global platform.
These landmark initiatives underlines the University’s reputation as a hub for environmental research excellence and it’s dedication to promoting sustainable development, public health and ecological resilience across Rivers State and the Niger Delta Region.
