The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has vowed that justice will served on the four kidnap suspects it apprehended at the weekend.
The State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday stated this via a Press Release signed by the Command’s acting Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, on March 27, 2022 and made available to Journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
CP Friday announced that the suspects – Obichi Ngita, aged 20 years; Chisom Honest, aged 20 years; Young Chitu, aged 21 years; and Omens Woke, aged 23 years were arrested by gallant operatives of the Rivers State Police Command.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended for their involvement in the kidnapping and eventual murder of a commuter identified as Onyekachi Obioma Chukwuagu, along the East/West Road around Rumuodogo 1 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of the State.
The State Police Chief informed that the suspects, while pretending to be regular passengers, boarded the victim’s vehicle on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, however, when they got to a quiet part of the route, they kidnapped the victim and abandoned the vehicle, with registration number GDD 250 MU by the roadside.
He further informed that, upon receiving the complaint, the Command swiftly mobilized its operatives to the crime scene where they cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search resulting in the arrest of Chisom Honest, who led the operatives to the rest of the gang, and the location of the victim’s corpse.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, claiming that they murdered the victim, using a machete, for refusing to cooperate with them.
CP Friday said efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects indicted in the matter with a view to concluding the investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, while condoling the family of the deceased for the unfortunate loss, assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation in line with his commitment to the cause of justice.
