In a statement signed by the Secretary of NAWOJ, Rivers State Chapter, Ngozi Anosike, and made available to Journalists in Port Harcourt, the NAWOJ State Chairperson called on journalists in the State to “conduct themselves properly and adhere to professional and ethical standards ahead of the forthcoming NUJ state Congress”.

Serekana-Nwikhana, in the statement, noted with dismayed the ethnic coloration and other unprofessional indulgences dogging the forthcoming NUJ state election.

She stated that “NUJ as an elitist body was expected to set the pace for due process in the conduct of its internal affairs, most especially, towards the forthcoming NUJ state elections”.

NAWOJ further called on stakeholders in the elections to exercise restraint and caution in order to avoid tendencies that could truncate the forthcoming NUJ state election as well as bring the Union to public disrepute.

The statement urged all members of NUJ in Rivers state to be objective in their choices of candidates to move the Union forward.
