Residents Advised to Exercise Caution Ahead of Naabiradee Festival in Gokana

Residents of Gokana Local Government Area have been urged to take precautionary measures as preparations begin for the annual Naabiradee cultural festival.

The festival, associated with the Amanikpo Society, is a traditional nocturnal event observed across several communities in the area. According to information available within the locality, activities are scheduled to commence on April 20, 2026, at the Bari-Mogho spiritual ground.

Community sources indicate that the event involves restricted cultural rites, with warnings issued against unauthorised viewing of the midnight procession. Individuals who violate these customs risk sanctions, including fines and other traditional penalties.

Residents, particularly non-indigenes, have been advised to remain indoors during designated periods and to respect local traditions throughout the duration of the festival.

The Amanikpo Society is known for its cultural significance within Ogoni communities, with its observances spanning varying durations across different areas.

A breakdown of the schedule shows that the festival will last two days in Nweol, Giokoo, Gbe, and Bodo; three days in Yeghe and Bomu; seven days in Deeyor, Biara, NweBiara, Barako, Lewe, Kpor, K-Dere, and B-Dere; and eight days in Bera and Mogho communities.

Authorities and community leaders have called for cooperation from all residents to ensure a peaceful observance of the festival.
