Represent Your Families Well – Poly Rector Admonishes as FPOG Matriculates 234 Students

Young people have been admonished to honour their families by way of their conduct wherever they find themselves, especially those in tertiary education institutions.

Acting Rector of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, Rivers State, Mrs. Ibifiri Pollyn gave this admonition on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the 2nd Matriculation Ceremony of the institution in Bonny.

In a statement by the Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Polytechnic, Mrs. Gift Green, disclosed that a total of 234 students, comprising 77 national diploma and 157 continuing education students were matriculated for the 2021/2022 Academic Session.

Addressing the matriculants, the Acting Rector admonished them to be good representatives of their families and to take their studies seriously, while advising them to shun examination malpractices and cultism all through their stay in the institution.

She opined that the avowed vision of the institution was to close the middle and top level manpower gaps in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria and beyond, in line with industry needs, community aspirations, as well as, forging partnerships with world-class institutions.

Mrs. Pollyn called on the Visitor to the Polytechnic, President Muhammadu Buhari, government at all levels, international oil and gas companies (IOCs), and other well-meaning individuals to support the actualization of this vision to bridge the skills gaps, which according to her will bolster the economy.  

Speaking, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Dame Anengi Wilcox, who was represented by the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, Amasenibo Ralph Jamaica, advised the students on the importance of Education, reminding the students that this ceremony is just the matriculation which is the entering process into the institution, stressing that the important ceremony in the life of a student is the convocation.

Some of the students interviewed expressed joy and gratitude to God for being counted worthy to matriculate and being admitted into one of the prestigious Polytechnics in Rivers State, promising to be of good behavior and take their studies seriously so as to make their parents proud and be good ambassadors of the school and country.

In attendance at the event were the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Bonny Division, CSP James Ekpeta, represented by the Station Officer, NPF Bonny Division, ASP Samuel Ovuro, a representative of the Department of State Services (DSS), and a representative of the Bonny Kingdom Titled Citizens Assembly (TCA), Amasenibo Dagogo Benstowe.
