Raphael Onyedika Completes Bundesliga Move to Eintracht Frankfurt in Major Career Leap

Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the signing of Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, with the Nigerian international putting pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031.

The 25-year-old will wear the No. 25 shirt as he embarks on a new challenge in Germany’s top flight.

His arrival follows an impressive four-year spell with Club Brugge, where he became a key figure in midfield thanks to his composure, defensive discipline, and consistent performances.

During his time in Belgium, Onyedika played a crucial role in helping Brugge win two Belgian league titles, as well as the Belgian Cup and the Belgian Super Cup.

Before his successful stint in Belgium, the Nigerian midfielder also enjoyed silverware in Denmark, lifting the Danish Cup with FC Midtjylland before making his move to Club Brugge.

Onyedika joins Frankfurt with a wealth of experience despite being only 25 years old.

The defensive midfielder has made 268 senior appearances during his professional career, including 24 UEFA Champions League matches across the last three seasons.

On the international stage, he has earned 26 caps for Nigeria and featured in the Super Eagles squad that reached the final of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

His consistency has been one of his greatest strengths. Across four seasons with Club Brugge, he made 40, 49, 52 and 42 appearances respectively in all competitions, underlining his importance to the team and his remarkable durability.

Those qualities were among the reasons Frankfurt moved quickly to secure his signature.

Sporting director Markus Krösche praised the Nigerian international, highlighting his physical presence, tactical awareness, and reliability.

According to Krösche, Onyedika has established himself as a dependable starter over several seasons, collected major honours in Belgium, and gained valuable international experience with Nigeria.

He also expressed confidence that the midfielder still has plenty of room to improve in Bundesliga and believes he will play a key role in Frankfurt’s long-term plans.

“He still has great potential for development and is also an important building block for the structure of our squad,” Krösche said.
