As the uproar that greeted the killing of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Oliver Inoma-Abbey continues to gains momentum, there have been questions and reactions trailing the dastard murder of the police chief in the line of duty.

However, the Police in Anambra State say they have apprehended the suspected killers of the slain police chief.

A source within the Anambra State Police Command, who pleaded anonymity as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told Kristina Reports that the suspects were picked up from different locations across the State last night.

There were, however, questions as to what led to the killing of Inoma-Abbey, given his rank and position in the Nigeria Police.

Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu

ACP Oliver Inoma-Abbey was shot, killed and burnt alive alongside an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Joseph Akubo, when, according to the Police, he went to intervene in an alleged attempted kidnap incident in Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The late Inoma-Abbey was to be installed Chief and Head of the Abbey-Hart Chieftaincy House of Bonny Kingdom in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State before his gruesome murder by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed terrorist group, the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

Reports say the incident took place at the home of the lawyer to the outlawed group, IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, where the Police made attempt to arrest him, but were allegedly resisted by IPOB members.

This resulted in a fracas with the Police which resulted in the killing of the senior police officers.

Knowledgeable security sources wonder how an assistant commissioner of police could be shot at close range and burnt alive with his men in their vehicle.

Mrs. Rita Inoma-Abbey

A retired senior official in one of the security services, who preferred not to be named, asked, “Where were his armed security details? And what happened to the security perimeter around him? Even if he was leading his team from the front, how were this thugs able to target and kill him easily? Obviously, something is not adding up in the whole narrative of what transpired between the police the IPOB boys”.

The slain police chief was the husband of a former public relations officer (PPRO) of the Rivers State Police Command, Rita Inoma-Abbey.

Meanwhile, the Police in Anambra State have declared IPOB lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor wanted for being the brain behind the ugly incident that led to the unfortunate death of the late Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Reacting to the incident, a former Directing Staff of the Department of State Services (DSS) owned Institute of Security Studies, Larry Pepple lamented the horrid murder of the slain police chief, saying “the situation now calls for us to mourn with the immediate family and speak out as a Kingdom”.

In a post on his Facebook wall, the former Executive Director of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) wrote:

Larry Pepple

SO TRULY ACP OLIVER INOMA-ABBEY IS GONE?

From the below post it can be deduced that the Nigeria Police Force High Command has confirmed that our son is no more. So, what should we do as a people of Grand Bonny and as a Kingdom?

The situation now calls for us to mourn with the immediate Family and speak out as a Kingdom. Should we also remain quiet like we did when my own Dad was gruesomely murdered by gunmen in his sleep?

Bonny Kingdom wake up. Or have we become the proverbial lame Lion that even Antelopes now come to demand debts from?”

In the meantime, security operatives in Bonny LGA, home of the slain police chief, were said to be on high alert to prevent any form of reprisal attacks or untoward reaction to the dastardly killing of Inoma-Abbey, given the fact that Bonny has a large population of persons of Igbo extraction who were either working or doing business there.

Community leaders on their part were also making frantic attempts at downplaying the issue with a view to calming frayed nerves.

An elder of the one of the chieftaincy houses told Kristina Reports in confidence that since the government and the police authorities were already taking definite steps to resolve the issue it would be unwise for anyone to take the laws into their hands. He advised those affected by the death of the late police chief to take solace in God and not demean his memory by any acts of violence.

An anonymous source observed that “isn’t was strange that in one year, two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) would be killed in avoidable situations, one in Abuja during the fracas between the Police and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and then this?”

He advised the leadership of the Nigeria Police to up its game in terms of personnel security and those of their families, especially, those in the line of duty managing sensitive situations like was just witnessed in Anambra State.
