Fashion diva, 21 year old Nkine Bissong was all shades of glorious at the African Fashion Week Toronto in Ontario, Canada, where she emerged winner of the Students Designer Competition.

Born and bred in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nkine Yolanda Odera Bissong, a third year student of University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Charlottetown, Canada, emerged winner in her first outing in a fashion contest.

The unique talent of the budding fashion maestro is highlighted in the fact that she taught herself fashion without going for any formal training in fashion designing. She, over time, drew lessons from the normal Home Economics needle work of her junior secondary days.

She will be showcasing the rest of her amazing collections to the fashion world on Friday, August 23, 2019 and also participate in the overall Toronto African Fashion come 2020.

Nkine had her primary education at Montessori Primary School, King Perekule Street, GRA, Port Harcourt, and secondary education at Charles Dale Secondary School, Port Harcourt, all in Rivers State. She later went on to University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Charlottetown, Canada.

Her clothing line is called “OSOWO BY NKINE” and is trending heavy on Instagram with the handle @osowobynkine. Reveling in the joy of her awesome daughter’s success on the global fashion stage, her mother, Nneka Orakwue Bissong posted this thrilling tribute on her Facebook page:

Some cute little girls grow up to be cute big girls. It is evident that cute little girls can grow up to be STRONG AND WONDERFUL LADIES (and still be cute).

You never went anywhere to learn how to design and sew,but was greatly gifted from God and you pulled yourself together and bought a sewing machine for yourself to practice your passion of designing at your spare time off studies and tutored yourself.

Two years into this passion you’ve made me so proud to be your mother.

Today, in Toronto,@ The African Fashion Week Toronto (ATWT) 2019, in conjunction with Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), you registered yourself with confidence, no fear, no intimidation amongst five(5) other already established designers. And the world had to make room for little more fancy in the fashion world because the “KPAKPANDO”(Star) is born with your brand called “OSOWO” meaning “GOD”. Gucci and all dem pipuu go hear, mk dem dey look😄😄. 
You stayed up, designed and sewed and showed your natural talent on the runway and won💥💥💥💥💥👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.
I feel lucky as I have witnessed the first of the most beautiful outing in your life. I am your biggest fan. 
Today, as your mother and for the joy, laughter and pride that comes from having a daughter like you….
