How was the feeling when you heard your name as the winner of this pageant?
It was great, I was dumbfounded when I was called and I feel very happy.
Talking about dumbfounded, meaning you didn’t see it coming?
Well, actually, I saw it coming initially but like two days before I travelled there were a lot of challenges. I all had in my mind was that let me just participate. I wasn’t looking at the crown anymore because it has been a long journey. As at the time I was going of this thing, I just said let me just go. And surprisingly, we had only 51 countries and I was called Miss World United Nations. It was really great.
What were those qualities you think the judges saw that made them make this decision?
Frist of all, it was my commitment to community development which I carried out here in Bonny. I visited 14 communities and I was able to do a documentary. That stood me out because what they requested for was a profile, like a profile of your projects but I went a little bit further to do a documentary about Bonny, the people in Bonny, why people should visit Nigeria. And that’s one of the things that stood me out. One other thing was my perseverance, passion for community development projects.
Going forward, what does this represent for the girl-child, Bonny, Nigeria and a lot of hushed voices within your gender?
Yeah, sure, I really love Bonny. I am proud to be born in Bonny. I have quite a number of projects for the girl-child, empowerment and girl-child education. When I started, I started reaching out to teenage mothers. But today there is quite a number of projects I am putting down for the girl-child.
Tell us what we should do with this glory you have home to us?
First of all, I want to appreciate everybody that supported me, my mummy here, Elfrida. She has been very wonderful. And my dad, Hamilton Allaputa. And I also have Adata Bristol, and quite a lot of people. Even Mrs. Esther Randolph Brown. Yes, everybody has been very supportive. And I want to really appreciate them for giving me all the support and I promise that this platform, this crown is going to do what it was actually created for, which is to impact the lives of the less privileged and the voiceless in our society.
