Super Eagles stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi were the standout performers as Nottingham Forest claimed a vital 2–0 away win against Brentford in Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Nigerian duo combined quality and composure to secure Forest’s first victory in four matches.

Forest took control of the game with disciplined defending and sharp attacking moments, with Aina setting the tone before Awoniyi sealed the result late on.
The defender played a crucial role in Nottingham Forest’s opening goal, showing his attacking threat from right-back.
The Super Eagles defender pushed forward confidently and created the opening that led to Forest breaking the deadlock.
Aina found space on the right flank and, despite being closed down, delivered a measured cross into the box.
Igor Jesus met it brilliantly, controlling the ball on his chest before firing a right-footed volley into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher helpless.
After returning from injury and missing out on Nigeria’s bronze medal campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the defender is now fully fit and making an immediate impact in the Premier League.
Taiwo Awoniyi seals the win in style
Introduced in the 68th minute, Awoniyi wasted no time in making his presence felt. With just 11 minutes left on the clock, the striker delivered the knockout blow with a powerful counter-attacking finish.
Brentford were pushing for an equaliser when Nikola Milenković intercepted play and the ball fell to Morgan Gibbs-White.
He released Awoniyi down the right, and the Nigerian forward showed pace and strength to drive into the box, beat his marker, and calmly slot past Kelleher.
It was a welcome moment for Awoniyi, who ended a long goal drought stretching nearly a year and 29 appearances.
His last goal had come in February during Forest’s FA Cup draw against Exeter, making this strike even more significant.
