NTA Port Harcourt NUJ Chapel Inaugurated, Pledges Unity, Professionalism and Welfare
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Chapel of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Port Harcourt Network Centre, has been formally inaugurated, marking a new chapter in the organisation of journalists within the station.
The inauguration, which followed years of efforts to establish a structured union at the station, was described by the chapel as more than the creation of another union structure, but a renewed commitment to professional excellence, unity, welfare and the collective advancement of journalists.
The new chapel pledged to promote ethical journalism, capacity building, mutual respect, accountability and responsible journalism, while protecting the legitimate professional interests and welfare of its members.
The chapel also commended the leadership of the NUJ, led by Paul Bazia, for facilitating and inaugurating the structure, describing the move as a demonstration of inclusiveness and commitment to strengthening the union across its various chapels.
It equally expressed appreciation to the Zonal Director, NTA Network Centre, Port Harcourt, Mr. Paul Atte, for his leadership, mentorship and support for unions within the station.
According to the chapel, the cooperation of the NTA management, particularly the News Department, towards the inauguration reflects a commitment to maintaining a harmonious and productive working environment.
The newly inaugurated chapel, however, stressed that its activities would complement rather than undermine the administrative responsibilities of NTA management.
It said it would operate within the rules and regulations of both the NUJ and NTA, while maintaining constructive engagement with management and other stakeholders.
The chapel said its broader mission was to create an environment where journalists feel represented, respected and empowered, while contributing positively to the growth, reputation and development of NTA Port Harcourt.
Speaking on behalf of the chapel, its Secretary, Osinachi Samuel, said the leadership under Chairman Comrade Robinson Derateide was committed to playing by the rules and promoting industrial harmony.
The chapel further pledged to collaborate with NTA management to attract development, create better opportunities for journalists and strengthen the professional standing of members.
“On behalf of the Chairman, Robinson Derateide, the leadership and members of the NTA Port Harcourt NUJ Chapel, we appreciate the management and entire staff of NTA Port Harcourt for their support,” Samuel said.
He added that the chapel would prioritise professionalism, integrity and constructive engagement as it begins its operations.
The inauguration brings together the aspirations of journalists within the NTA Port Harcourt Network Centre under a formal NUJ structure, with the new leadership expected to focus on welfare, professional development and a stronger relationship between the union and station management.
