NSE President Celebrates Inclusion, Diversity, Equity as Eno Taiwo Becomes 1st Female Chairman of Bonny Engineers

Eno Taiwo, engineer, wife, mother, multitalented resource person, motivational speaker, life coach, entrepreneur and role model has been inaugurated as the sixth and first female Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Bonny Branch.

Congratulating her shortly after her inauguration on Saturday, February 4, 2023 in Bonny, Rivers State, the President of NSE, Tasiu Wudil, FNSE, said he feels fulfilled witnessing the emergence again of a woman as Branch Chairman of the NSE, revealing that it aligns with the emergence of his successor who is also a woman and the first female President of the NSE.

“I feel fulfilled because I’m an advocate of inclusiveness and I am happy also to tell you that I’ll be the first President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers that will hand over to a woman.”

“My deputy who’s going to be the president in January 2024 is a lady; so, we’re happy. This is not the first time we’re having first lady chairman but in this branch, this is the first time.”

He asserted that the emergence of woman in diverse leadership positions in the NSE signposts the inclusivity and gender equity being promoted by the society, noting that “Engr. Eno Taiwo is the first woman here and we’re happy that there’s this inclusiveness”.

The outgoing Chairman of the NSE Bonny Branch, Ahmed Abdulwahab performed the inauguration on his successor, Eno Taiwo which included administering the oath of office on her, adorning her with the insignia of office and presenting the gavel to her, effectively transiting leadership of the branch to Mrs. Taiwo, who went on to inaugurate members of her Executive.

In her inaugural address, the new Chairman of NSE Bonny Branch, Eno Taiwo thanked the leadership of the society and her colleagues for the confidence reposed in her, asserting that it was time for engineers to exit the dark alleys and embrace visibility, pointing out that the era of taking the back stage was over.

“It’s actually time for us to come out and be visible. We should be creating visibility and making more impact in the society; enough of engineers staying at the background and watching things happen while actually doing the thing and others are taking the glory for what the engineer has put in his time and energy into.”

She promised to take the NSE in Bonny Island to the next level having watched its growth over the years under different leaderships, maintaining that she would consolidate on the achievements of her predecessors.

“I’ve been a member of the exco over time and I’ve watched the growth of the branch. I’ve watched the transformation, I’ve seen different past chairmen, I’ve seen what they have done, and we’re building on the legacy of our founding fathers and I promise to uphold and take the branch to the next level.”

In a chat with Kristina Reports on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, General Manager, Production of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), Adeleye Falade, FNSE, hailed Eno Taiwo assuming her new role as Chairman of NSE Bonny Branch, asserting that her emergence was consistent with the NLNG’s drive to entrench gender diversity, equity and inclusion in leadership spectrums around it.

In his welcome address, the outgoing Chairman of NSE Bonny Branch, Ahmed Abdulwahab congratulated his successor on her elevation, expressing the hope that she would consolidate on the successes recorded during his tenure, thanking the NLNG, Evomec, and other corporates for the invaluable support they have availed the society, so far.

On his part, husband of the new Chairman, Kunle Taiwo, who is also an engineer, while celebrating her, charged her to focus on service delivery, expressing confidence in her capacity to deliver on expectations already building as she steps up as the first female Chairman of the branch, stressing that her versatility, unique competences, affability and deep understanding of issues were assets that would see her succeed.

On his part, President of D-Court Group, Dimieari Green, FNSE, FNISafetyE, expressed confidence in Eno Taiwo, noting that having gone through a lot of tutelage and leadership exposure, she would perform well in her new role as Branch Chairman.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to the NLNG and Evomec Global Services Limited (EGSL), among other corporates, as well as on different leaders and members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and live performance of a cultural dance to entertain guests at the event.
