As Nigeria marks its 63rd Independence Anniversary, the Director of Needham International School, Eneka, Port Harcourt, Ernest Needham Chapp-Jumbo has called on the country’s leaders to discharge their responsibilities to the citizens.

Chap-Jumbo made this during an event to commemorate the nation’s 63rd Independence Anniversary at the institution’s campus at Eneka in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State with management, staff, students and pupils in attendance.

The seasoned educationist extolled the contributions of Nigeria’s ‘founding fathers’, which culminated in the nation’s attainment of independence.

He said Nigeria has come of age being 63 years old and, therefore, is saddled with some responsibilities towards her citizens such as provision of social amenities, economic stimulants and social safety nets.

He also called on well-meaning citizens to pray for Nigeria and endeavour to perform their civic responsibilities which includes payment of taxes to the government and adherence to laws.

He emphasized on the need for the country to be one irrespective of tribal and cultural considerations, noting that the Nigeria’s strength lies more in its diversity thus the leaders should harness the strength in the diversity to engender its progress.

Members of the Needham Community, who came dressed in the nation’s traditional green and white colours, participated in a match past, prayers for Nigeria, her leaders and parents.

The event ended with special prayers for the leadership of the country and rendition of the national anthem.
