Nigeria thumped Australia 5-0 in their definitive group game to earn a place in the Fourth edition of the World Deaf Football Championship knockout stage in Malaysia.

The Deaf Eagles were placed in Group D alongside, Gabon, England, and Australia.

After failing to grab a point from their first two group stage encounters against Gabon and England, with Gabon winning by a walkover and England winning by 5-1, the Deaf Eagles needed a solid win to stay alive in the competition.

The Deaf Eagles put their poor start behind them and channelled the energy, stayed resilient and kept focus as they took on Australia, delivering a heavy defeat to the side and thereby finishing as best losers.

Nigeria will do battle with Ukraine in the World Deaf Football Championship round of 16. The match will take place on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 20:30 hours.

The competition got underway on Wednesday, 20 September 2023 and will conclude on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
