Tests conducted on samples taken from persons at the General Hospital, Bonny by officials of the Rivers State Government and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have returned three negative and two positive results for COVID-19.
A highly placed official within the medical community, who preferred anonymity, confirmed this to Kristina Reports, stating that the samples collected by a combined team led by the State Commissioner for Health, Professor Princewill Chike were returned on Thursday, May 28, 2020.
“They came in here on Sunday to take some samples…as in those that came for admission and those that said they are not feeling too strong.”
“We told them to hold on that we are expecting the NCDC people who came and took some of the samples. They also went to other clinics.”
“The results came yesterday, out of the five persons they attended to, two persons are positive.”
He further disclosed that the affected persons have been isolated awaiting the NCDC team, alongside other officials from the state Ministry of Health who were coming to start contact tracing on the affected persons.
“They (NCDC and Rivers State Government team) are coming back today for tracking. They are coming for contact tracing. The State Government is bringing some persons that will come in too. The NCDC is expected in Bonny soonest to start contact tracing of the affected persons.”
There has been an upward spike in complaints of symptoms associated with COVID-19 across various medical facilities in Bonny Local Government Area, forcing the medical community in Bonny to reach out to the NCDC and the State Commissioner for Health, Prof Chike.
The NCDC and the Commissioner’s team eventually came last weekend to take samples from volunteers for analysis, which has now returned the aforementioned results.
Results from other samples taken from other medical facilities were still being awaited.
