A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, from Amudo Village in Ekwulobia Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been arrested by police operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station.

The arrest occurred on April 11, 2025, at approximately 1:40 PM, following the murder of his 68-year-old mother, Dorathy Anyaji, at their shared residence.

According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect also attempted to take his own life after the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that the altercation began when Nnamdi accused his mother of dishonesty regarding the money earned from their cassava farming business.

Nnamdi is currently in custody and is under close supervision to prevent any further suicide attempts.

He will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.

Additionally, police recovered an axe at the crime scene.
