Despite concerns surrounding electoral tensions, Okrika Local Government Area in Rivers State has remained peaceful throughout the voting process.
Kristina Reports observed that residents turned out to cast their votes for their preferred candidates in an orderly manner.
Speaking with Kristina Reports, the agent for the Action People’s Party (APP), Boma Marcus expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, praising it as one of the most credible he’s witnessed in recent times.
“This has been a peaceful election, no rancour or acrimony. This is one of the most credible and reliable elections I’ve witnessed in recent times,” he said.
A local resident, Stella Austin voiced her optimism about the potential for change, particularly for women, through the electoral process.
“We pray for the environment to remain like this during elections. We pray our candidate wins. I voted for APP, and in our local government, we need change. We need people who will uplift Okrika Local Government Area,” Stella said, speaking on behalf of women in the community.
However, Kristina Reports noted a lack of security personnel at several polling units in some wards, including Ward 5, where only vigilante groups were present.
An agent, Clement Eli reported that voting had yet to commence in his unit due to the delayed arrival of electoral materials.
“We haven’t started the elections. We don’t know why there are no security personnel. Probably they will come later, but this pipeline polling unit is violence-free,” he stated.
Meanwhile, in Ward 2, the elections concluded without any reported incidents of violence, according to Tamunosiki David.
“In Ward 2, elections are over, all the materials have been retrieved, and the officers have gone home. There has been no case of violence,” he confirmed.
