Obaseki, Shaibu sworn-in for second term

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, was on Thursday has been sworn in for a second term in office alongside his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

The inauguration which was held at the Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, had in attendance governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State.

PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, was also present at the event with some other party officials while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was represented by a government official.

Obaseki emerged winner of the Edo State Governorship Election in September after defecting to PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was announced winner by the electoral umpire, th Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 307,955 or 57.3 percent against APC’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu who had 223,619 or 41.6 percent.
