In a clear demonstration of uncommon determination to create a conducive working environment for staff at the Council Secretariat, the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Uko Umoh has ended more than ten years of blackout at the Council Secretariat.

The reconnection of the Local Government Council Secretariat to public power supply was warmly welcomed by staff of the council, who commended the Uko Umoh led Etinan Transition Committee for its proactive approach to governance which has brought life back to the Secretariat.

Recall that on December 20, 2023, a few days after he assumed office, Umoh had at a meeting with the leadership and members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the Millennium Hall, Etinan, promised to provide a conducive working environment for all the staff.

Linking the Council Secretariat to the national grid is one of the plans Umoh envisaged to implement in a bid to reposition the Council Secretariat for maximum productivity.

Kristina Reports gathered from credible sources that the Local Government Chairman will soon embark on providing furnitures to offices and also give a facelift to the council Secretariat.

With this development, the Etinan Transition Committee Chairman urged staff of the Local Government Council to always be available and active at their duty posts.

Speaking exclusively with Kristina Reports, the Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Etinan LGA Chapter, Ifiok Macauley commended the LG Chairman for not only restoring light to the Secretariat but also touching the lives of staff.

“I was posted here in 2018 and I have never seen public light here. By restoring light, the Chairman, being the only one I have seen that comes to work everyday, has reduced the cost of governance in the area of buying diesel to power the Secretariat’s generator. We are very pleased.”

“Again, I don’t remember the last time staff of Council received imprest to run their offices but the Chairman is up to date in the payment of imprest to directorates as well as claims of staff thereby giving every staff of the Council a sense of belonging. So, from the Head of Service to the least staff in Etinan, it is a new dawn we have never had it so good.”

“He has promised NULGE a bus and from the way he is going, I have confidence that Etinan Wing of NULGE will soon have a bus” he concluded.”
