Dr. Abdulhakeem Abdullateef, former commissioner for Home Affairs, Lagos State, today, declares his intention to run for the number one seat in the state come 2023, saying time has come for Lagos to offer its residents the best of what it is made of.

Abdullateef said this on Tuesday to guests and supporters during his official declaration at Ostra Hall, Central Business District (CBD), Alausa, Ikaja, Lagos, urging residents to take up the challenge in participating in politics and freely choose their leaders.

The ex-commissioner stressed that the state can bring out its best if it is properly managed by capable hands even as the state is endowed with human resources adding that this necessitated his ambition to lead the state in delivering to the residents the true pride of Lagos.

Although, he is yet to indicate the political platform in which he would contest, he therefore charged residents to break the norm of political apathy, urging Lagosians to ensure their votes count by supporting his ‘vision for a better experience and greater Lagos’ irrespective of political, ethnic or religious affiliations.

The state’s former lawmaker recounted that the country is currently faced with enormous challenges, he therefore advocates the need for more technocrats to run the affairs of the nation in delivering a more prosperous entity for the coming generations.

“It is a movement where the masses would come out and say enough is enough, and when that happens, it means the vote will count. The old style of politics would soon expire and it will no longer be business as usual. So, with your support, we will replace incompetency with competent hands,” he told crowd of supporters at the venue.

“It is only where votes count that there will be development. The reason we are poor is because our votes do not count. If votes count, our leaders would be responsible, they will automatically be accountable.

“But in the absence of that, the result is what we are witnessing now, underdevelopment everywhere which is what has led to political apathy and that is what they want, but we won’t allow that,” he said.
