Super Eagles Star Josh Maja Returns to Ligue 1 as Moses Cobnan Joins Greek Side Levadiakos
Josh Maja has secured a return to French football after completing a move to Ligue 1 outfit Le Havre following the expiration of his contract with West Bromwich Albion.
The Nigerian international joins Le Havre as a free agent, signing a two-year deal that includes an option for a further year. The transfer marks a return to a league he knows well after previously representing Bordeaux.
Maja first arrived in France in January 2019 when he left Sunderland for Bordeaux, where he impressed with several standout performances before the club’s financial troubles forced a change in direction.
In 2023, the 27-year-old switched to West Brom in the English Championship in search of a fresh challenge.
Although injuries limited his consistency, he still demonstrated his goalscoring instincts and finished as the Baggies’ top scorer during the 2024/25 campaign.
Le Havre will be hoping Maja’s experience in both Ligue 1 and English football strengthens their attacking options ahead of the new season.
For the former Sunderland striker, the move represents an opportunity to rediscover his best form in familiar surroundings and re-establish himself as one of Nigeria’s leading forwards.
With regular playing time and renewed confidence, Maja will also be looking to boost his chances of earning a return to the Super Eagles setup as international competitions approach.
Meanwhile, Moses Cobnan has officially joined Greek Super League side Levadiakos FC on loan from Russian champions Krasnodar.
The 23-year-old Nigerian attacker arrives in Greece with a growing reputation as a versatile forward capable of playing across the frontline, offering pace, creativity and an eye for goal.
Levadiakos confirmed the signing as they strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign, expressing confidence that Cobnan’s experience will add quality to their attack.
During his time at Krasnodar, Cobnan made 82 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
He was also part of the squad that won the 2025 Russian Premier League title, a significant milestone in his young career.
Last season, he contributed two goals and one assist in 16 matches as Krasnodar remained among Russia’s top-performing clubs.
Cobnan’s European journey started after leaving Nigeria, where he developed at Obazz FC before moving to Slovakia at the age of 18.
After spells with ŠKF Sereď and Duslo Šaľa, he enjoyed a breakout campaign with FK Železiarne Podbrezová, scoring 14 goals in just 21 appearances to earn a move to Krasnodar.
His switch to Levadiakos presents a fresh opportunity to become a key figure in a new environment while continuing his development at the highest level.
Strong performances in Greece could also strengthen his case for a future Super Eagles call-up as he looks to establish himself among Nigeria’s emerging attacking talents.
