It’s Time-Up for Sea Pirates on Bonny waterways – Joint Security Forces

The Joint Security Services in Bonny Local Government Area have vowed to bring to an abrupt end the menace of sea piracy along the Bonny River and adjoining waterways ensure the safety of travellers utilizing the Bonny-Port Harcourt sea route.

The Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy (NN) Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, Navy Captain Kola Oguntuga declared this today during a Show of Force demonstrated by the Joint Security Services comprising all security agencies in the area.

The Show of Force had the heads of the various security agencies: Navy Captain Kola Oguntuga, the Commanding Officer of the Joint Task Force in Bonny LGA, Lt. Col. OG Olayinka, represented at the event by his second-in-command, Major Mohammed Musa, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Shuaib Achigili, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the security agencies while addressing the members of the Bonny Marine Transporters Association (BMTA), travellers and others, who utilize the waterways, Navy Capt. Oguntuga pledged to work to with relevant stakeholders to curb the incidences of sea piracy on the waterways around Bonny LGA.

He noted that despite the challenges faced by the security agencies in terms of logistics and other operational issues, the security agencies were capable of delivering a lethal blow to the hoodlums perpetrating the heinous activities on the sea.

The security chief, however, called on the BMTA to do an in-house cleansing, as, according to him, there were informants among them who were providing information on the identities of travellers utilizing the jetty to the criminals operating on the waterways.

According to him, the Show of Force, organized by the Joint Task Force in Bonny LGA, was geared towards confidence building and to demonstrate the capability of the security agencies to deal with any security threats in the area.

He reassured the people of the area that the security operatives were not resting on their oars but working round the clock to checkmate the incidences of sea piracy and other security threats, adding that the hoodlums terrorising the area would soon be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
