There is a semblance of normalcy in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja today, August 5, 2024, as there has been an increase in vehicular and pedestrian movements in the nation’s capital.

This is coming after the protests turned violent in Lugbe on Thursday, August 1 and the altercation between the Police force and the protesters which led to the latter being attacked with tear gas on Friday, August 2, 2024.

Workers were seen commuting to work and Police vehicles and officers were stationed in strategic positions such as Berger, Area 1, Utako, Jabi and Wuse. However, secretariats and government offices remained closed.

In an interview with a resident who was on her way to work, Kristina Reports gathered that residents of the FCT are hopeful that the President’s speech on Sunday has answered the questions of the protesters.

“I am just hopeful that nothing happens. I prayed very seriously today before I left my house because I have heard all the things that have happened so far in this protest.”

“The President addressed the nation yesterday and I am hopeful that that has pacified the protesters a little so I hope they dont protest today.”

Another resident, Andrew, however, expressed disappointment in the Abuja protests, describing the Abuja protest as “a joke”, saying that he had hoped the protest in Abuja would be more serious than it was.

“I had hoped that because Abuja is the seat of power, the protest would be more serious, so that we will directly talk to the leaders. But that is not the case.”

“After two days of protesting, all the protesters have retreated and today, it looks like everybody has moved on. Look at the roads, it’s begging busy. I dont think we are serious; the protest was a joke.”
