Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that veteran actress Kate Henshaw played a key role in helping her overcome nervousness during her very first experience on a movie set.

The revelation surfaced in an interview clip that circulated online on Friday, July 4, 2026, where Akindele reflected on her early days in the Nigerian film industry and the support she received while starting out.

According to Akindele, her first time on a professional film set was alongside Kate Henshaw, who assisted her in adjusting to the demands of acting on set.

She said: “My first time on set was with Kate Henshaw and she helped me when I was nervous.”

The actress explained that the experience left a lasting impression on her and helped shape her confidence as she continued building her career in Nollywood.

Akindele rose to prominence in the late 1990s after featuring in the educational TV series I Need to Know, which aired between 1998 and 2002, where she played the role of Bisi, a curious secondary school student.

Her major breakthrough came in 2008 with the hit film Jenifa, which later evolved into a successful franchise that established her as one of Nollywood’s most influential figures.

Over the years, she has gone on to build a successful career as an actress, producer and director, with major projects including Jenifa’s Diary, Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Tribe Called Judah.

The latest revelation has since drawn attention from fans who praised Kate Henshaw’s mentorship role and highlighted the importance of support among veteran and upcoming actors in Nollywood.

The moment continues to generate conversations about mentorship and guidance within the Nigerian film industry, especially for young actors entering the profession.
