Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje has cancelled the traditional Sallah event, Hawan Nasarawa, which includes a visit to the governor by the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

The move was said to be an indication that the cold war between Ganduje and Sanusi was far from over.

The scheduled visit by the Emir of Kano was slated to take place today Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Government House, Kano.

The scheduled visit by the Emir of Kano was supposed to take place two days after Eid-Al Fitri as a sign of allegiance to the political authority was put on hold due to security reasons.

A statement released late Wednesday night by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar explained that the Governor was acting on an intelligence report which was deliberated upon during the State Security Council meeting held between the Governor and all security agencies in the state.

According to Anwar the intelligence report indicated that there might be a security breach during the Sallah celebration.

“It is clear to all that Governor Ganduje is a peace loving leader, who doesn’t toy with safety and security of the people and all other citizens living in Kano.

“For this reason and as a result of intelligence report, the state government is not relenting, and it declares Hawan Nassarawa cancelled.

“After the security meeting the Kano Metropolitan Empire Council was duly informed about the terrifying intelligence report and the cancellation of Hawan Nassarawa”.

He therefore advised the people of Kano to move about freely on their normal duties and assured that measures with all seriousness are being put in place during the Sallah celebration.
