Party faithful and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across Bonny Local Government Area are in high spirits as they anticipate the visit of the leader of their party and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and the governorship candidate of the PDP, Siminialayi Fubara to Bonny Island.
Visiting alongside the Governor are his deputy, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, State Chairman of the party, Desmond Akawor, and other party bigwigs, who are expected in Bonny Island on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 to flag off the party’s campaign and hand over flags to the party’s candidate in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Chairman of Bonny LGA, Dame Anengi Barasua, alongside her vice, Omoni Longjohn, and other top officials of her government, are said to have been working round the clock to ensure a memorable event on Tuesday.
Dame Barasua, in a statement, expressed her excitement over the visit, saying that Bonny LGA being the homeland of the Ibani ethnic nationality, is tremendously elated over the emergence of Siminialayi Fubara as the PDP gubernatorial candidate and enthusiastic to see him win the governorship election come Saturday, March 11, 2023.
She explained that though Fubara hails from Opobo LGA of the State, the Ibani people, comprising Opobo and Bonny LGAs are one having same ancestry and mutual historical antecedents, calling on all sons and daughters of the Ibani stock to rally around the PDP guber hopeful to accord the needed support to win at the forthcoming polls.
On his part, the House of Assembly candidate of the PDP for Bonny Constituency for the 2023 elections, Victor Oko-Jumbo commended Governor Wike for ensuring that “my Ibani brother emerged as the guber candidate of our party and as you know he is already the next governor of Rivers State. Thank you, my dear Governor and welcome to my hometown”.
As part of efforts to create the awareness, the Bonny LGA Chairman participated in a roadshow alongside her party faithful and supporters around major roads in Bonny, singing and dancing and inviting everyone to join them on Tuesday at the Local Government Industrial Unit field for the campaigns.
Checks by Kristina Reports indicate that security has been beefed up around the island LGA to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
