Female students of Rivers State University, Nkpolu Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt have protested an attack on their hostel by armed robbers who raped, robbed and assaulted them.

 The protesting students, who took their anger to the main gate of the university on Thursday, August 24, 2023, said the armed robbery attack happened exactly 2am while the girls were sleeping.

Kristina Reports gathered that the armed robbers entered Hostel D through the laundry room by breaking the wall, disclosing that they then went into the rooms carting away valuables they could get their hands on and assaulting the students.

Speaking, one of the students, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the hoodlums inflicted machete cuts on the breast of one of the female students; adding that after fighting with them, they molested other girls and almost raped a girl who pleaded that she was experiencing her menstrual circle.

“They took a lot of phones, laptops, POS machines, and this is not the first time. They also shot guns in the air. We haven’t slept since 2am. because we are scared.”

During the protest, one of the girls expressed disappointment over the nonchalance of the school authority as regards the situation, saying that this is not the first time such incident has happened.

“A school that I paid heavy amount of money for school fees. We no go gree, we need security.”

Another student told Kristina Reports that there was a note written about a plot to attack next.

“They even write note keep say Hostel B is next.”

Efforts to reach the relevant authorities of the school has been abortive as at the time of this report just as the neither the Student Union Government (SUG) nor hostel management declined making any staement.
