Failed Attempt on King Suanu Baridam: Ogoni Women Cry Out Over Harassment, Intimidation; Demonstrate at Taabaa Police Division

A group of women from Taabaa Community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday, June 13, 2026, demonstrated at Taabaa Police Station against what they described as ‘police harassment’ of members of the community.

The protesters led by the Women Leader of the community, Joyce Neebari-Nule, carried placards and chanted songs, showing their frustration and deep displeasure over an alleged intimidation and unlawful arrest of innocent residents by the Police Force.

Speaking at the police station, Neebari-Nule called for an end to the incessant arrests and harassment.

She questioned how an attempt on the life of the Gbenemene of Bangha Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Suanu T. Y. Baridam, should result in harassment and intimidation of the people of the Taabaa Community, who, according to her, have no substantiated connection with the matter.

Stressing their grievance, the Deputy Women Leader, Ndor Cecilia, also expressed concern over the fear and uncertainty allegedly created in the community by the arbitrary arrests and action of the Police, urging authorities to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Furthermore, the Paramount Ruler of Bara-Loole Community, Chief Precious Gbogbara, who joined the demonstration in solidarity with the women, urged security agencies to dialogue and collaborate with community leaders in order to ensure mutual understanding and lasting peace.

Addressing the protesting women, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Taabaa Police Division, Chika Elo, a Chief SuperintendentofPolice (CSP), advised them to seek redress through the courts if they believe their rights have been violated.

He assured them that the Police authority would always ensure proper investigation of complaints of unlawful treatment of citizens when channeled appropriately.

Some of the inscriptions sighted on placards carried by the protesters read:

“Commissioner of Police, warm your men against unlawful arrested of Taabaa leaders”, “Why the Police harassment, we deserve some human treatment”.
