Expect Power This Week, Barth Nnaji Assures Aba Electricity Users

Chairman of Aba Power Limited, Prof. Barth Nnaji, has assured residents and businesses in Aba that electricity supply will be restored within the week, following days of widespread outages that have disrupted commercial and domestic activities across the city.

Nnaji gave the assurance after a meeting with the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Public Utilities, convened to address growing concerns over the prolonged blackout affecting the Aba Ring-fenced Area.

According to him, efforts to restore normal electricity supply have reached an advanced stage, expressing optimism that the technical issues responsible for the disruption would be resolved in the coming days.

“I want to assure the people of Aba that they should expect power this week. We have been working tirelessly with all relevant stakeholders to resolve the challenges, and we are confident that electricity will be restored,” Nnaji said.

The assurance comes amid public outrage over the outage, which has forced many businesses, manufacturers, hospitals and technology firms to rely heavily on generators, resulting in increased operating costs and reduced productivity.

The blackout has also raised security concerns, with residents lamenting the prolonged darkness in many parts of the commercial city.

Members of the House Committee on Power and Public Utilities reportedly sought explanations from Aba Power over the cause of the outage and the measures being taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Nnaji explained that the disruption resulted from challenges affecting gas supply to Geometric Power Aba Limited, the company’s primary electricity generation partner, adding that engineers have been working to restore normal operations.

He appealed to residents to remain patient, assuring them that the company was committed to providing stable and reliable electricity to Aba.

“We understand the hardship this situation has caused our customers, and we sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding. Our commitment remains to deliver dependable power supply to the people of Aba,” he added.

The meeting comes after a series of public updates issued by Aba Power on the outage, as residents and business owners continue to await the restoration of electricity across the city.
