Someone once said “Studying history enables us to develop better understanding of the world in which we live. Building knowledge and understanding of historical events and trends, especially, over the past century, enables us to develop a much greater appreciation of current events today.
It appears this would be at the core of expectation as the crème-de-la-crème of Bonny Kingdom gather on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Bonny for the debut of “Historical Talk with Ross”.
The host, Rossphilips Irims, who describes himself as a content creator, innovative thinker, event planner, architect, and creative problem solver, is the Chief Executive Officer of Bonny Atlas, promoters of “De Creed”, a history vending platform on Facebook.
It will be one night many have yearned for as Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State, Nigeria has been one of millions of communities, races and peoples whose historical origins, language and identity face the challenge of extinction due to receding interest by oncoming generations.
Ross’s “De Creed” has succeeded big time in achieving a push back for the Ibani language by providing meanings, explanations, definitions and background details of many an issue related to the identity, language and values of the Ibani (Bonny) race.
The one night event promises to showcase Bonny stories, Ibani dramas, Ibani songs, featuring of special guests, and lots more, as the organizers put it “all in one night”.
The Ibani Nation, comprising Bonny and Opobo Kingdoms in Rivers State, Nigeria, have come a long way centuries down the line to create huge impact in the way the peoples of the Niger Delta live and interact.
Some of the key issues expected to be discussed include the discrepancies in the arrival times of the two groups of ancestors, Okpara Ndoli, Opuamakuba, Asimini, and Alagbariya at Orupiri, and Kongo at Ikpakpayo in present day Finima; the aborigines of Kuruma, Aganya, Ayambo, Oguede, Amachunta, Beresiri, among others; the Duawari, traditional leadership system, traditional dress code, among others.
Hopefully, these and several other issues will be given their deserved attention at the already trending event which has had several notable personalities signing up online to attend the show.
Records as purveyed in history books have it that discovered about four centuries ago, Okolo-Ama (land of the egret), which was later renamed by the European merchants as Bonny etched on the fringe of the Atlantic Ocean.
The now very popular island later became the centre of global trade as Europeans engaged in commerce with the natives and succeeded in forging agelong affinities that have now made the Bonny Island the cynosure of the international community.
In a chat with Kristina Reports, Rossphilips Irims called on lovers of Ibani and Niger Delta history to keep a date with “Historical Talk with Ross” in order to have an opportunity to relish the rich antecedents, glorious history and evergreen values of the Ibani (Bonny) people.
This is splendid and commendable. Am particularly fascinated with the fact that you would be delving into Finima History which hosts 3 independent Families, Tobin, Brown and Attoni. with each between Tobin and Brown laying claim as founders. I hope you would be forthright in speaking truth to reality in line with existing Oral and written records.
Can’t wait for this
