Following his promise of fast-paced growth and development of the state’s economy and development, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno has begun to put things in place to ensure that his promise as well as the objectives of the ARISE Agenda are accomplished.

It can be recalled that upon his return from the 8th Annual Political Summit in London on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Governor explained to Akwa Ibomites that while in London, he did a good job of marketing the State and encouraging investors and developers to come into the state.

It appears that these were not mere words as barely two days after his return from the summit, actions were being taken to ensure the economic expansion of the state.

On Wednesday, 25th October 2023, Umo Eno, in the company of a delegation from Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Limited embarked on a tour of the ongoing construction of Christ the King Model Secondary, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

While taking the delegation around the project, the governor solicited their support and aid in the projects being carried out in the state. He explained that the adoption of any of these projects by the company will fast-track the much wanted development in the state.

“I am using this opportunity to ask them for their support in the ARISE agenda through their corporate social responsibility by adopting one of our projects in the area where they operate, whether it is a model school, health center or market. We will like to see them do something.”

The company, which is already in the process of setting up a petrochemical plant in Eastern Obolo, has so far been of great help to the government, the Eastern Obolo Community and residents of the state at large.

While the Governor acknowledged the activities of the company, he stated clearly that he was not soliciting funds for projects but actual participation of the company in the ARISE agenda execution.

He explained that it was important to bring the company delegation to an ongoing project site in order for them to see the kind of projects that are being carried out by the government and to know what is expected of them.

“We are not asking them to give us the money, we are simply saying look at the model we have put in ground, adopt it as part of your corporate social responsibility. That’s why I brought them here to see. They need to see what you are talking about so they can make up their mind to do one.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr. Mehit explained that the company is committed to the realization of the ARISE agenda which centers on development at the grassroots.

He stated that the company is undertaking projects in the Eastern and Western parts of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area and will spread it’s developments to other parts of the state by creating infrastructure.

“We are totally committed to His Excellency’s ARISE agenda. We are going to evaluate the projects that will come in each of these areas and I am guaranteeing His Excellency and all Akwa Ibomites today that we will take up one of these projects in the state.”
