In fulfillment of his campaign promise of improving the educational development of people living with disabilities (PLWDs), Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno has doled out a whopping N100 million for disbursement to PLWDs in the State.
The Governor, who announced this on Monday, November 20, 2023 during the disbursement of funds to PLWDs, also announced the release of funds for the payment of bursary to Akwa Ibom students in public tertiary institutions across the country.
Undergraduate students living with disability were presented with cheques of N250,000 while postgraduate students of the same category were presented with cheques of N300,000.
Represented by State Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebiet, the Governor said he was fulfilling his promise after only a few months in office, advising the beneficiaries to do the right thing and come out tops in their various fields of study.
“I’m humbled and delighted, the Governor has been here for only a few months and we’ve been blessed massively in the educational sector.”
“Every Government investment comes with a corresponding return on investment, in this case, your excellent academic performances will be the benefit of the investment.”
“The money for bursary payments to all Akwa Ibom Students will be in a designated account newly opened for this disbursement and the money will be disbursed digitally with 10,000 going to each student.”
The recipients of the cheques expressed happiness with the governor’s actions, thanking him for remembering them as they are often not paid attention to, promising to make proper use of the opportunity given and as well as make the Governor proud.
