Deputy Echeta Scores in Third Consecutive Game, Leads Rivers United to Three Wins on a Trot

Rivers United secured a 2-0 victory over Katsina United in a MD28 Rescheduled fixture on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, to win their third consecutive game since exiting the CAF Confederation Cup.

Deputy Echeta, who had previously scored in victories over Plateau United and Rangers International, opened the scoring in the 44th minute for his third on a trot. Kazie Enyinnaya then doubled the lead through Andy Okpe who had previously assisted Echeta’s goal, to put Rivers United in a more comfortable position in crunch time(81′).

Rivers United started strongly, with Andy Okpe sending his header wide in the 12th minute, He then attempted to connect with Kazie Enyinnaya’s cross from a free kick in the 21st minute, but his cutback header was cleared. Twenty-three minutes later, Okpe created a goal-scoring opportunity for Echeta who did not fail to convert.

The home side took a 1-0 lead into halftime and doubled late into stoppage time through Enyinnaya, off Okpe’s assist.

The Port Harcourt-based side has now won three games in a row, defeating highfliers Plateau United and Rangers International, before getting the better of Katsina United today, and has moved up to 12th place in the standings.

The Pride of Rivers now has five outstanding games remaining: away matches against Remo Stars, Sunshine Stars, Kwara United, and Abia Warriors, as well as a home game against Niger Tornadoes.

They will face Bayelsa United away at the Samson Siasia stadium on Monday, April 29, 2024, aiming to extend their winning streak.
