Davido’s 5ive Wins Album Of The Year At AFRIMMA 2026
Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has won Album of the Year at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards for his fifth studio album, 5ive.
The award was presented during the AFRIMMA ceremony held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas, with the official results confirming 5ive as the winner of the Album of the Year category.
The 2026 edition marked AFRIMMA’s return after a two-year break and featured 41 honours celebrating artists and other creative figures from Africa and the diaspora.
Davido entered the awards with five nominations, including Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa and Album of the Year, making 5ive’s victory one of the notable Nigerian results from the ceremony.
The Album of the Year recognition came for 5ive, which was released in April 2025 as Davido’s fifth studio album.
The project features collaborations with international and African artists, including Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Omah Lay and Victony.
The album explores themes of growth, hope and personal transformation, reflecting the direction Davido associated with the project.
Ahead of its release, Davido described the significance of the album’s title and said, “Five is freedom, unbound by borders.”
He also linked the number five to themes of hope, grace, change and growth while discussing what he wanted the project to represent.
The AFRIMMA honour adds another recognition to an album that has continued to attract attention since its release, while also extending Davido’s presence in the awards’ international space.
The Album of the Year category featured projects from artists across Africa, with 5ive ultimately securing the honour in the official 2026 results.
Davido’s victory was part of a broader showing by Nigerian artistes at the Dallas ceremony, with several other Nigerian acts receiving honours across regional, genre, production and culture categories.
The 2026 AFRIMMA festival reportedly brought together about 5,000 attendees, more than 100 artists and DJs and participants representing more than 40 African countries.
While 5ive took Album of the Year, the overall Artist of the Year honour went to Fally Ipupa, while the Song of the Year award went to BNXN and Sarz for “Back Outside.”
For Davido, the AFRIMMA result places 5ive among the projects recognised at the 2026 ceremony and gives the album another international award following its release in 2025.
