As the world celebrates this year’s International Women’s Day, the immediate past Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Dame Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox has hailed Bonny women for their excellence, resilience and effervescence.

Dame Claude-Wilcox commended the women for their resilience and devotion to duty, not only at the home front but also in the workplace and society at large.

This, according to the immediate past LGA Chairman, has thrived despite numerous challenges that both nature and the society have imposed on them.

She described Bonny women as epitomes of grace, knowledge, beauty and strength, who have achieved so much in different areas of life, globally.

She added that Bonny Kingdom, and indeed the world, owe them a debt of gratitude for their contributions towards ensuring global economic, social and political development.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, “Accelerate Action”, Anengi said her government was deliberate about empowering women through improved budgetary allocation to the various sectors that have direct implications on the welfare and well-being of the women and the girl child.

She enumerated that these include appointment of women into strategic positions in government, assigning them as representatives of government in diverse strategic initiatives, and leveraging their knowledge and expertise in the day-to-day running of government.

“While in office, my government took much actions in accelerating women and girls in various spheres of life”.

She also used the opportunity of the celebration of the 2025 International Women’s Day to thank all Bonny women for their unwavering support during her reign as the Bonny Local Government Chairman.
