As the relationship between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, becomes obviously strained, more political gladiators have made public statements that have accentuated their previously mystified political leanings.
Recently, members of the former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 general elections have declared support for the Fubara led administration in Rivers State, as well as the presidency of Bola Tinubu.
The Council, however, in a statement jointly signed by its former Chairman, Lee Maeba, and Director General, Abiye Sekibo, implored President Tinubu to call Wike to order over what it termed insults on former Governor Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili.
“Lately, he has resorted to insulting our revered leader and former Governor, His Excellency, Sir Dr. Peter Odili, Commander of the Order of the Niger(CON); and his wife, Her Excellency, Honourable Justice Mary Odili, CFR, DSSRS, because they refused to support him in his failed attempt to unjustifiably impeach the duly elected Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Grand Service Star of Rivers State (GSSRS)….
The 2023 PDP PCC also said it was saddened by the actions of Nyesom Wike whom they accused of acting against the interest of Rivers people.
“Unfortunately, he has consistently abused the privilege that God bestowed upon him through the votes of the people by acting against the interest of the people….”
The Council also accused Wike of running a kleptocratic government whilst he held sway as Governor of Rivers State.
They further advised President Tinubu to pay close attention to the activities of the Nyesom Wike led FCT administration to avoid an extension of the kleptocratic activities.
They also vowed not to standby and allow the activities of Nyesom Wike destroy the peace of Rivers State saying ” if Wike troubles Rivers People, he shall surely inherit the wind in an overdose….”
Prominent members of the now defunct Rivers State PDP presidential campaign council include Sekibo, a former Minister of Transport, Maeba, a former Senator representing South-East Senatorial District, former Governor, Celestine Omehia, and former National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, a former Deputy Governor of the State, Tele Ikuru, and a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Toru Ofili, among others.
