Bus Driver Kills Wheelbarrow Pusher in Port Harcourt
A wheelbarrow pusher lost his life in the early hours of Friday, July 3, 2026, after a commercial bus reportedly veered off the road and struck him at the Ikwerre Road/Ekwe Street Junction in the Mile 3 area of Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The deceased, identified as Ifeanyichukwu Udo, was said to be standing by the roadside waiting for customers a few minutes before 6:00 a.m. when the Mitsubishi commercial bus rammed into him.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle, allegedly travelling at high speed, also hit another pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Traffic officials and operatives of the Nkpolu Police Division, led by Ogbuefi Henry, responded to the scene and rushed both victims to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save him, Udo later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The second victim survived the crash and was receiving treatment for injuries at the time of the report.
The driver of the commercial bus, identified only as Saturday, was arrested at the scene by police, while the vehicle involved in the crash was impounded as part of the investigation.
The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had commenced.
“I can confirm the accident which claimed one life along the Mile 3/Ikwerre Road axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt.”
“The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, while investigation into the incident is ongoing,” Agabe said.
Although some eyewitnesses attributed the crash to excessive speed, the police have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Investigators are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The incident has added to concerns over road safety in Port Harcourt, particularly along busy commercial routes where pedestrians and motorists share limited road space.
